According to ISNA, Mohammad Reza Rezaei Kouchi, referring to the recent statements of the Minister of Interior regarding the direct election of the mayor by the people, said: I am in favor of electing the mayor by the people's vote, and we will raise and review this issue as a proposal in the Civil Engineering Commission.

The representative of the people of Jahrom and Khafar in the Islamic Council continued: In recent days, the issue of electing the mayor by direct vote of the people has been raised in the media and the Minister of Interior has also mentioned it. I also agree with this and I believe that the direct election of the mayor by the people creates management stability in big cities and brings many positive effects.

The head of the civil commission of the Islamic Parliament, added: Considering that the issue of electing the mayor by the people's vote is related to the decision of the representatives and the vote of the Majlis. We will examine this issue in the Civil Engineering Committee of the Majlis and present our suggestions. But in general, we agree with this method of choosing the mayor, especially in big cities.
