Speaking at the 16th National Conference on Bitumen, Asphalt and Machinery, Mohammad Reza Rezaei Kouchi, head of the civil commission of the Islamic Parliament,, said that today we are facing a large volume of half-finished projects and said: the life of the projects today is on the shoulders of the private sector; Therefore, the government should put the necessary planning to improve and strengthen this sector in its agenda.

He stated that according to the international standard, 2-6% of the value of the roads should be spent on its maintenance, and said: One of the reasons for the wear and tear of the roads is that there are very limited resources in road maintenance, and necessary measures should be taken in this sector.

The head of the civil commission of the Islamic Parliament, Majlis stated that the life of asphalt has decreased due to improper infrastructure of the roads and clarified: One of the reasons for the decrease in the quality of the asphalt of the country's roads is that the resources of the contractors are not paid on time, and this causes the decrease of the life of the asphalt.

Rezaei Kouchi stated that the quality of machines that distribute asphalt is not good; He said: The average life of machines for transporting bitumen and making asphalt has increased, and this itself causes a decrease in the life of asphalt.

Pointing out that whatever is produced domestically, it is sold, he added: "For whatever reason, we have not been able to meet the domestic demand for buses."

Although we have a 20 billion dollar foreign exchange imbalance in the country, the chairman of the construction commission of the Majlis said: we must reduce the bitumen consumption by using new technologies. If we can use new technologies and methods to consume less bitumen, we can export 2 million tons of bitumen.

Rezaei Kochi added: Currently, the amount of bitumen production in the country has reached 5 million tons, of which only 1 million tons are exported and 4 million tons are used in the country.

He said: The quality of Iranian bitumen has the highest global standards and many countries welcome and use Iranian bitumen.

Referring to the current quality of Iran's bitumen, he emphasized the necessity of using this opportunity for export and said: only 10% of cargo and passenger transportation is done by plane.

Rezaei Kochi noted: We have 250,000 kilometers of roads in the country, of which 90,000 are worth the value of these roads, and according to the standard, the value of their maintenance is 2 to 3 times.
